Description
Hand Carved Clay Oil Lamp from Jerusalem
✦ A Light Born from Jerusalem Stone ✦
In a small workshop in Jerusalem — the same city where oil lamps once lit the paths of pilgrims, illuminated ancient churches, and flickered through the night in homes of faithful believers — this lamp was born by hand.
The potter begins with raw clay, shaped and formed entirely without molds. Each lamp is unique — no two are identical. After shaping, the lamp is fired, hardening the clay through heat just as craftsmen have done in this land for thousands of years.
But here is where this lamp becomes something rare:
The cross is not pressed into the clay before firing. It is carved after.
Once the lamp has cooled from the kiln, the artisan takes a tool and carves the cross directly into the fired clay — a deliberate, meditative act. White pigment is then applied by hand into the engraved grooves, making the cross emerge from the dark clay like light from shadow.
The natural rope is hand-wrapped around the handle — not just as a wick, but as a finishing touch that gives each lamp its own character and texture.
What you receive:
One-of-a-kind handmade clay oil lamp
Hand-carved cross, pigmented white after firing
Natural rope wick, hand-wrapped
Made entirely by hand in Jerusalem, Israel
Fully functional — use with olive oil
Perfect as:
An altar or prayer corner centerpiece
A meaningful Christian gift (baptism, confirmation, Easter, Christmas)
A collector’s piece of Jerusalem artisan pottery
A tangible connection to the biblical world of “Your word is a lamp to my feet” (Psalm 119:105)
Because every lamp is handmade and the cross is individually carved, slight variations make each piece entirely unique — a reflection of the human hand that created it.
