Description
Vintage Byzantine “Virgin of Tenderness” Icon Plaque • Eleousa Mother & Child • Mosaic-Style Print on Panel • Gold Border
* The item was part of a display, the stickers on the back are original.
Byzantine icon reproduction of the Mother of God (Eleousa / “Virgin of Tenderness”)—Mary cheek-to-cheek with the Christ Child. The front is a mosaic-effect print that imitates tiny tesserae and the vertical plank seams of an old panel, framed by a gilded painted border. It’s an evocative devotional piece that displays beautifully on a shelf or wall.
On the reverse are two typed Dutch labels. The lower label identifies the original artwork as:
“Mother of God of Tenderness, School of Constantinople, glass mosaic on wax, 11th/12th century, Byzantine Museum, Athens.”
There is also a small printed dedication label and a metal triangle hanger for easy display.
*Note: This listing is for a mid-late 20th-century reproduction plaque; it is not an original mosaic.

Mosaic-style print on a rigid panel with gold border
